WMU College Republicans' "Hall of Shame"
This is ridiculous. The College Republicans on this campus are attacking professors because the professors "inject" liberal viewpoints into their lectures. First off, college is a place of differing viewpoints. You are expected to discuss things in class and instructors, while they are supposed to present the facts, are supposed to put their view on how they present the information. You shouldn't be penalized for having a differing view, but you shouldn't be expected to remain neutral about everything. Secondly, they were picking professors whose classes tend to these viewpoints. The case of the teacher who spoke of the horrors of South African apartheid and talked of the maltreatment of women was frowned upon by the idiots in the College Republicans. They claimed that she provided a biased view point of the apartheid. Um, news flash. THE APARTHEID WAS HORRIBLE! And women were abused during it. Admittedly, so were men. But considering the course was on female history during the apartheid...It's kinda to be expected. And what really pissed me off was attacking a professor who was arrested for soliciting a prostitute. Yes that is illegal and maybe it is unbecoming of a professor at a university. However, this says NOTHING about how that professor teaches. Their "Hall of Shame" is a way for the College Republicans to attack with impunity. It is childish, stupid, and all over immature. And seeing as how they received an award from the national board of their organization, this shows us how terrible a lot of these College Republicans are. I am sure there are some nice Republicans, but things like these tend to come to the forefront.

Parking on Campus
Admittedly, you can expect parking on any college campus to be hell. However, I feel that Western Michigan is exceptionally terrible. The campus lacks adequate parking facilities for all the students in all areas. Furthermore, the Parking Services is almost as bad as some airlines, overbooking the available slots. Theoretically, a student buys a parking pass, guaranteeing a spot. Now, the plan should allow for that student to park near his or her dorm. However, two problems have arisen with this. One, they don't stratify the parking permit system. In other words, they don't put limits on the parking areas. They just have an overall limit. So if they have say 1000 spots overall and 900 people buy spots in F lots, there is only 100 left for the rest of campus. In addition, those 900 people might have to fight over 300 spots available for F passes. The second problem is that they don't stick to their set limit. They oversell, expecting the students to not have the car always on campus. The idea is that they make more money from the same amount of used spaces. And all this wouldn't be so terrible if we could at least park where we can. But...the parking services units find it fitting to immediately issue tickets and citations as soon as even a minor violation occurs. Students wrack up tickets trying to park for class and eventually have their cars towed. The system is horribly flawed and designed to make additional money for the university. Equally idiotic is the plan for the reclamation of three fourths of the parking lot near the Bernhard Center. When this lot was a lot, it was in use all the time. However, they saw it fit to trim more parking from this area in an attempt at beautification. More stupidity from parking. Oy.

Birthday Update
Yes, yes. February seventh was my birthday. I am now 19 years of age. 19 is such a... boring age. I have not yet achieved two decades and and I have gained no new privileges. Terribly enough, my birthday was a bad day. But no matter. Tonight, I will be going to Red Lobster with my father, my stepmother and my friend Sara. And I will do laundry tonight at home for free. Ah college!
